Chances are the you already meet the first four requirements listed here, but if you need a sponsor then let us know!
If you see the value of our mission to “Visit the sick, relieve the distress, bury the dead and educate the orphan.” then you probably meet this requirement. We require that you be a man or woman of good moral character. An important part of having good moral character is that you be trustworthy and reliable just as you would expect from any Odd Fellow.
The Odd Fellows do have a requirement that you be loyal to your country. We demonstrate our loyalty to the United States when we recite the Pledge of Allegiance at every meeting. We want men and women who are comfortable with having such a degree of loyalty and that does apply to most people and probably to you as well!
You probably already believe in a Supreme Being, Creator and Preserver of the Universe. Your individual religion or form of worship isn’t as important as your belief because, as a rule, we do not discuss religion. The Holy Bible is part of our ceremonial procedures and we recite the Lord’s Prayer every meeting. If you believe already then that’s enough.
Isn’t life easier without arguing about politics and religion? This is why Odd Fellowship specifically forbids any discussion about divisive opinions and issues. We count on each other to avoid such talk. It is in our rules. We invite you to respect this practice and refrain from discussing religion and politics. Arguing doesn’t increase respect.
You also are required to have a sponsor who is a current member. But we will take the time to get to know you if you don’t know anyone right now. The Odd Fellows Lodge meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM.
